Dangote Granite Mines Awards Scholarships to Ogun Communities (Nigerian Mining)

The Dangote Granite Mines Limited has awarded scholarships worth millions of naira to students from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State, as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and commitment to sustainable development.

The scholarships were granted to secondary school and tertiary students from the Ijebu-North local government area.

The company highlighted this initiative as a crucial part of its efforts to uplift the local communities through education. Joseph Alabi, the General Manager of Community Relations at Dangote Granite Mines, stated, “By supporting these students, we are investing in their future and the future of Nigeria.” He added that the scholarships are designed to provide educational opportunities to young people, especially those in financially challenged families.

The presentation ceremony was attended by traditional rulers and government officials. Alabi reiterated that the scholarship program is part of Dangote’s broader goal to support education in all its host communities. “This initiative has helped students, especially those whose parents struggle to afford education, pursue their academic ambitions with greater ease,” he remarked.

The scholarships are intended to cover the students’ educational expenses until they graduate. “We are here today to award scholarships to 40 tertiary students and 20 secondary school students,” Alabi said, emphasizing Dangote Group’s longstanding relationship with the communities, which fosters a positive environment for their business operations.

Local leaders expressed their gratitude for the program. Oba Mufutau Adesesan Yusuf, the Sopenlukale of Oke Sopen, praised Dangote Group Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for the ongoing support and encouraged other industrialists to emulate such impactful contributions. He also urged parents to use the scholarship funds responsibly to ensure continued support from the company.

Beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed their thanks, with Oladuni Ibrahim from The Polytechnic Ibadan saying, “The scholarship has lessened the financial burden on our families amidst current economic challenges.”

Through initiatives like this, the Dangote Group continues to strengthen the educational fabric of Nigeria, believing, as they have demonstrated through their Aliko Dangote Foundation, that education is the cornerstone of a prosperous society. The foundation has invested significantly in educational projects across the country, including N1 billion for Nigerian universities and a N1.2 billion fully equipped student facility at Ahmadu Bello University.
