Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has reiterated that the ban on tree cutting and illegal mining remains in force, warning residents to stay off the forests and adhere to environmental protection laws.
Speaking on Saturday at the coronation of Agrey Ali, the newly appointed Kumu 1 of Gombi, Fintiri emphasised that his administration would enforce strict penalties against violators of the ban, urging traditional rulers to assist in monitoring compliance.
Fintiri reminded residents that his government had placed a prohibition on tree cutting for charcoal production due to its harmful impact on reforestation efforts. He also stressed the dangers of illegal mining, which not only depletes natural resources but has led to fatal accidents among miners.

Addressing traditional rulers, Fintiri tasked them with ensuring that their communities uphold the ban. He urged the newly crowned Kumu 1 of Gombi to leverage his extensive administrative experience to foster unity and development in his domain.
The paramount ruler, Agrey Ali, who holds a public administration degree from Ahmadu Bello University and served as a permanent secretary before retirement, pledged to govern with fairness and inclusivity.
Acknowledging the ethnic diversity within his chiefdom, he assured his people that unity and collective progress would guide his leadership.
