Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mary Ogbe, administered the oath and applauded COMEG for its dedication to stabilising the profession. He underscored the responsibilities accompanying the profession and called on the inductees to uphold industry standards, combat quackery, and meet their obligations to the council.

“Dear inductees, reflect not on what COMEG can do for you but on how you can elevate COMEG to greater heights,” Dr. Alake advised, stressing the importance of certified professionals in the solid minerals sector.

COMEG Registrar, Prof. Zacheaus Opafunso, praised the inductees for completing rigorous training and urged them to seize opportunities in the extractive industry. He emphasised the need to adopt digital tools for professional growth and compliance, stating, “Embrace the digital space; play your role and be digitally compliant.”

Guest speaker Mr. Maspalma Samson introduced the Pan African Resource Reporting Code (PARC) in his lecture, “A New Dawn in Minerals and Mining in Africa.” He explained how the African Union’s initiative aligns mineral resource reporting with Africa’s unique contexts, replacing foreign models.

“The African Union developed this code to support the growth of Africa and its people,” Mr. Samson stated.

The event highlights COMEG’s commitment to driving excellence, professionalism, and innovation in managing mineral resources in Nigeria.
