Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd, has strengthened its position as a leader in Nigeria’s mining industry by hosting key stakeholders in the gold value chain.
In November, the company conducted various initiatives to demonstrate its commitment to responsible mining and community development. Highlighting these efforts was a Stakeholder Reception held in Abuja on 19 November 2024. The event brought together prominent figures, including the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Director General of the Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Nkom; and representatives from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, PwC, and other key organisations.
The reception followed SROL’s prominent participation in the Nigeria Mining Week, where it served as a Diamond Sponsor. Thor’s Chief Financial Officer, Chris Omo-Osagie, celebrated the company’s achievements, including its recognition as one of Nigeria’s Top 10 Non-Oil Exporters and awards such as the Responsible Resourcing Award for Labour and the CIPM Oscar for HR Best Practice in Mining. Omo-Osagie emphasised, “These achievements underscore our dedication to innovation, sustainability, and community impact.”
SROL Country Manager Austin Menegbo reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, stressing the centrality of responsible mining in its operations.
Minister Oduwole lauded SROL’s contributions to Nigeria’s economic diversification, stating, “Non-oil exports are crucial for this economy. Firms like SROL drive growth through productivity and competitiveness.”
The company received further recognition as a Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council Export Champion, showcasing its perseverance and commitment to national development.
During the event, SROL showcased its community initiatives, including the Segilola Women’s Initiative Programme, a Scholarship Scheme, and Livelihood Restoration Programmes, through a video presentation featuring beneficiaries’ testimonials. Earlier in November, SROL completed its second annual community medical outreach, providing healthcare services to nearly 2,000 individuals across Osun State, including residents of Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo, as well as local prison inmates. Services included diagnostics, medication distribution, and health awareness campaigns.
Expressing gratitude to stakeholders, partners, and volunteers, Menegbo stated, “SROL’s achievements set a benchmark for responsible mining in Nigeria, and we are committed to building on this momentum.”
