The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers has highlighted why Nasarawa State was chosen to co-host the Society’s annual conference alongside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The decision is rooted in Nasarawa’s abundant natural resources, which make it a central player in Nigeria’s solid minerals and agriculture sectors.
According to an official statement, Adewumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), will deliver the keynote address at the conference, alongside other experts with extensive knowledge in the solid minerals and agriculture sectors, particularly focusing on Nasarawa State.
The event, scheduled for November 2024 at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, will showcase Nasarawa’s potential as the home of solid minerals and a key contributor to the country’s food security. The conference will also feature funding agencies like AfDB, policymakers, and entrepreneurs.
Mahmud Abubakar, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, shared this information during a visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia. He explained that the immense potential in minerals and agriculture inspired the conference theme: “Solid Minerals and Food Security,” with a deliberate focus on Nasarawa State.
“For this conference, we designed the theme to focus on Nasarawa State because our primary concern, for those of us practicing in Abuja, is FCT and Nasarawa. There isn’t much activity, either commercial or agricultural production, happening in the FCT, but Nasarawa State is the headquarters of solid minerals in this country and also the food basket of the country,” Abubakar stated.
