Speaking in Bauchi, State Commandant Oloyede Oyerinde disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations around Waya Dam, located 40 kilometres from Bauchi metropolis. He explained that illegal mining in the area had led to serious environmental degradation, land encroachment, and increased security risks, negatively impacting socio-economic activities.

According to Oyerinde, the arrests were made during a raid conducted on January 5, based on credible intelligence. He noted that the crackdown was part of the NSCDC’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and its associated dangers.
