In a bid to improve the safety and efficiency of artisanal mining in Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago is currently in São Paulo, Brazil, fostering partnerships aimed at transforming the sector. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to address challenges faced by miners, including the dangers of mine collapses and exposure to hazardous substances like lead poisoning.

The initiative focuses on providing miners with modern, standardised equipment that adheres to safety and operational guidelines. This not only promotes economic growth but also prioritises environmental protection and sustainability.

Governor Bago emphasised his administration’s commitment to organising miners into cooperatives. This approach seeks to enhance responsible mining practices by promoting ethical standards, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, ensuring that productivity aligns with sustainability and social responsibility.

In addition to improving working conditions, the cooperatives will enable more efficient and sustainable marketing of artisanal mining products. By creating a structured framework, the government aims to uplift the livelihoods of miners and ensure safer, more organised mining practices across Niger State.
