The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) and the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) have finished the second round of training certain employees from various offices and locations across the nation on mining site emergency management.

    The training program in Abuja came to an end over the weekend. The head of the SMDF’s Minerals and Project Development Department, Dr. Martina Ananaba, on behalf of SMDF executive secretary/CEO Hajiya Fatima Shinkafi emphasised the importance of the trainees applying what they had taught.

    “As we move forward, I urge each of you to take what you have learnt and apply it, both on and off the pitch,” Hajiya Shinkafi Stated.

In order to guarantee that every employee at a mining site has the fundamental knowledge and abilities necessary to handle emergencies, she also asked the trained staff members to train others in the future.

    “We have covered important topics like first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and emergency preparedness over the past few days,” she stated. It is now the duty of individuals who gained from this training to become instructors, making sure that everyone is equipped to handle situations.”

    Quick action and First Aid in the field can be the difference between life and death, thus this knowledge transfer is essential. Therefore, we have to make sure that each employee at our mining sites has the fundamental knowledge and abilities needed to handle emergencies.

    “By doing this, we uphold the SMDF’s dedication to safety, readiness, and the welfare of individuals in high-risk situations in addition to protecting lives.”

    She cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, which place a strong focus on readiness and safety, as well as the ongoing backing of Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minister, as having cleared the path for the prioritisation of health and safety in the workplace.
