The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of two miners following the collapse of a mining pit in the Farin-Doki area of Shiroro Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that the pit caved in on Sunday, April 13, trapping two miners identified as Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, both from Kano State.
According to Abiodun, police operatives from the Erena Division, along with local residents, swiftly responded to the scene to carry out rescue efforts.

“Sadly, the victims were found lifeless and their bodies were taken to Zumba hospital for further examination,” the Police said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the miners were engaged in illegal mining at the site the night before the collapse.
Abiodun added that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.
Mining pit collapses have become a recurring tragedy in Niger State, claiming numerous lives in recent times.
