Taraba's Taskforce seeks Youth Involvement to Curb Unlawful Mining

Brig Gen Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (retd), the Executive Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, has asked young people to uphold the law and work with the government to protect the environment from unlawful mining operations.

This was said on Wednesday at an engagement meeting with the task force team of the Jalingo local government council by Faransa, who also serves as the head of the Special Task Force on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation.

He highlighted the need to put an end to unlawful mining and deforestation throughout the state, while also highlighting the need of shared responsibility in safeguarding the natural resources of the region. Declaring that unlawful mining and deforestation in Taraba have a negative impact on both human life and the environment, he promised to fight tirelessly with his team to put an end to these activities.

He said, “It is our shared responsibility to stop deforestation to prevent its detrimental effects on humans and to protect our environment against illegal miners.”

He emphasised that the committee’s work is in the best interests of Tarabans, requesting support and collaboration from all state residents, regardless of their political, religious, or tribal connections. He entreated the state’s citizens on the necessity of moving forward. should back Governor Agbu Kefas’s current administration, especially the governor’s initiatives to stop illicit mining throughout the state.

Aliyu A. Isa, the team head of the Jalingo Local Government Council task force, praised the governor for bringing the task force back into action. He gave the governor’s office assurances that the state’s youth would fully support it in accomplishing its environmental protection objectives.
