SROL receives award as biggest non oil exporter

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL) has been recognised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) as one of the top 10 non-oil exporters in Nigeria. The award was presented at an event celebrating the country’s top non-oil exporters, where Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, praised the key role these companies play in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

According to SROL, this recognition highlights the company’s important contribution to Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy. SROL’s Country Manager, Mr. Austin Menegbo, stated that the recognition from NEPC “further affirmed SROL’s role as a leader in non-oil exports and sustainable development.”

Menegbo added, “This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic diversification through robust export initiatives. At SROL, we are proud to contribute to national development, particularly job creation. Impressively, 44 per cent of our workforce is drawn from Osun State, with 28 per cent from our host communities. This reflects our dedication to fostering sustainable growth and providing opportunities within the regions where we operate.”

He also noted, “This acknowledgment encourages us to continue our journey towards sustainable development and community enrichment. We are excited about the future and remain committed to making even greater contributions to Nigeria’s export landscape.”

This honour highlights how much SROL has contributed to Nigeria’s continuous attempts to diversify its economy. The solid minerals industry is leading the nation’s diversification strategy as it continues to grow outside of its conventional oil sector. Mr. Austin Menegbo, SROL’s Country Manager, spoke about the honour and conveyed his pride in the organisation’s accomplishments:

“Our steadfast dedication to bolstering Nigeria’s economic diversification via strong export initiatives is demonstrated by this recognition. We at SROL take pride in our contributions to the development of the country, especially in the area of job creation. Remarkably, 28% of our workforce comes from our host communities, and 44% comes from Osun State. This illustrates our commitment to promoting sustainable development and offering chances in the areas in which we do business.

The Segilola Gold Mine, SROL’s flagship project and the operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, has established a standard in the mining industry there. The mine, which is in Osun State, started producing gold commercially in 2022 and produced 98,006 ounces in its first year. The mine continued to function consistently, producing an additional 84,609 ounces in 2023. Segilola Gold Mine, which has a 5.5-year mine life, is still an important resource in Nigeria’s solid minerals industry.

Segilola Resources Operating Limited is unwavering in its commitment to promoting economic expansion, generating jobs locally, and developing Nigeria’s mining value chain. The NEPC certification further solidifies SROL’s position as a pioneer in sustainable development and non-oil export. The Segilola Gold Mine, located in Osun State, began commercial production in 2022, producing 98,006 ounces of gold in its first year. In 2023, the mine maintained steady output with an additional 84,609 ounces of gold produced.
