Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has committed to reviving the mining sector to boost the state’s economic growth. Speaking through the Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad Maccido, during an interactive meeting with the National Miners Association in Sokoto, the governor announced the award of a contract to revitalise the miners’ market.
He stated that solid minerals would be mined to align with the government’s economic goals, adding that reviving the market would restore its lost glory and help coordinate mining activities. The reactivation of the market, he noted, would also enable the government to monitor miners’ activities and ensure effective management of the sector.
The governor has also approved the purchase of vital mining equipment as part of efforts to transform the sector before year-end.
Maccido described the meeting as timely, emphasising its importance in enhancing the ministry’s development to rival similar agencies in Kebbi and Zamfara states. He pledged to work closely with members of the miners’ association to achieve success.
Leaders of the miners’ association, including Ibrahim Muhammad Dan Yaro, Mainasara Asarakkawa, Ibrahim Garba Marnona, and Shu’aibu Musa, commended the commissioner on his appointment and assured their support for his initiatives.
