A violent reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement in Kwara State has left three people dead and two others injured, according to reports shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama.

The incident took place on Tuesday at Gaa Fulani near Bankole, in the Oke-Ode area of Ifelodun Local Government. The attack is believed to have been carried out by suspected hoodlums in retaliation for the killing of a Nupe man, identified as Shabba Ndabata, earlier that day at the Ndabata mining site.

Eyewitnesses told Makama that the attackers stormed the settlement, firing weapons indiscriminately and setting parts of the camp on fire. One of the victims, Gambo Abubakar, was reportedly burnt alive, while another, named Yabo, was fatally shot. Two others — Abubakar Mohammad and Abubakar Tambaya — sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Oke-Ode Maternity Hospital for treatment.

In the aftermath of the violence, community leaders from both the Fulani and Nupe ethnic groups convened a peace meeting aimed at preventing further clashes.

Makama noted that security forces have ramped up surveillance in the area, and efforts are underway to track down those responsible for the attack in a bid to maintain law and order.
