The Chairman of Gem Giant Ltd, Dr Babatope Agbeyo, has urged stakeholders and investors in Nigeria’s mining sector to strictly adhere to industry regulations and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) guidelines. He emphasised that compliance would not only ensure sustainable mining practices but also foster economic growth and community development.
Agbeyo made this call in a statement issued on Wednesday following the signing of a Community Development Agreement (CDA) between Gem Giant Ltd and the Faforiji Community in Osun State, formalising cooperation over mining activities in the area.
He also encouraged state governments to provide a supportive environment for mining operations, stressing that such efforts would attract more investment into the sector while enhancing the well-being of host communities. He urged authorities to prioritise the safety and security of both mining staff and local residents.

He further appealed to foreign investors to consider Nigeria as a prime destination for mining investments, assuring them that the sector remains conducive, safe, and full of potential. He also called on the government to mediate and resolve disputes that may arise between mining firms and host communities to maintain a stable investment climate.
The traditional ruler of Faforiji, Oba Adebayo Faforiji, expressed optimism about the company’s involvement in mining exploration within the community. He commended Gem Giant Ltd for its commitment to properly assessing the area’s mineral potential.
“We are grateful to welcome Gem Giant, a company founded by a son of this community, someone who has taken the initiative to explore our land and determine whether we have minerals in commercial quantities,” the monarch said.
He added that the community hopes the company’s exploration efforts will uncover valuable gold deposits and other minerals that would benefit both the company and the local people.
With the signing of the Community Development Agreement, Gem Giant Ltd has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining practices and fostering positive relationships with host communities.
