The Nasarawa State Government has sealed off Timadix Geomin Consult Nigeria Limited, a lithium mining company operating in Kokona Local Government Area, for allegedly violating mining regulations.
This action has sparked a dispute between the state government and the firm, with both parties presenting conflicting claims.
The company was accused of failing to comply with the state’s regulatory frameworks for mining operations. However, Timadix Geomin Consult alleges that the state government is interfering in its lawful activities.
Speaking to journalists, the company’s Managing Director, Tim Eldon, stated, “We obtained all necessary licences and conducted due diligence before commencing operations.” Eldon called on the Federal Government, particularly the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, to intervene and ensure justice is served.
In response, during a press briefing in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday, Acting Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe refuted the company’s assertions. He maintained that Timadix had bypassed established protocols and was not recognised as a legitimate operator within the state.

“Our decision to shut down Timadix Geomin Consult is in line with our resolve to end illegal mining in Nasarawa State. Findings from the committee set up to investigate the company’s operations revealed glaring irregularities,” Akabe stated.
He explained that a sub-committee, comprising key stakeholders from Kokona Local Government Area—including traditional rulers and the council chairman—found discrepancies in the company’s consent documents.
“The report showed that Timadix did not follow due process. The so-called consent letters were not properly obtained, and signatures attributed to royal fathers were falsified. None of the traditional rulers signed any document for Timadix,” Akabe added.
Dr. Akabe stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding communities with mineral resources from unregulated and illegal mining activities.
“We welcome investors in Nasarawa State, but they must respect our laws. Timadix and others seeking to engage in mining or any other ventures must follow due process to avoid situations like this,” he warned.
The acting governor assured residents that the state would intensify surveillance of mining activities and shut down any operation found to be illegal.
