    Minister of Solid Mineral Development Launches Gender Strategy Policy

    In order to promote diversity, empower women, and improve the overall sustainability of the mining sector, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has launched a gender strategy policy for the regional mining and steel industries. 

    The strategy plan was introduced at an event on Tuesday by Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development. The minister said that the current administration was prepared to prioritise gender equity and female participation in its “Roadmap for the Growth and Development of the Nigerian Mining Industry” during a dual-pronged event in Abuja that also marked the launch of the Women In Mining In Nigeria WIMIN strategy. He underlined the vital roles that women play in the prosperity and long-term viability of the mining industry, noting that their skills, knowledge, The development and prosperity of the mining sector depended heavily on these viewpoints. According to Alake, “We think that advancing gender equality is a morally right and strategic move that will spur innovation, boost output, and support our country’s long-term growth.” We urge all involved to firmly establish gender equality.

    In order to promote diversity, empower women, and improve the overall sustainability of the mining sector, the Federal Government, acting through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has launched a gender strategy policy for the regional mining and steel industries. The strategy plan was introduced at an event on Tuesday by Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development. Speaking during a two-day event in Abuja that also served as the kickoff for the Women In Mining WIMIN strategy 

    The minister stated that the present administration was prepared to give gender parity and female participation top priority in its “Roadmap for the Growth and Development of the Nigerian Mining Industry.” This was in reference to the Nigeria WIMIN plan. He underlined the vital roles that women play in the prosperity and long-term viability of the mining industry, noting that the sector’s development and expansion depended heavily on the skills, knowledge, and viewpoints of women. According to Alake, “We believe that promoting gender equality is both a moral and strategic decision that will drive innovation, enhance productivity, and contribute to the sustainable development of our nation. We encourage our stakeholders to also entrench gender equality in their organisations.”

     “As we gather here, we recognise the indispensable contributions of women to the success and sustainability of the mining sector role, thereby shaping our nation’s development, their talents, expertise and perspectives are also essential to the success and growth of the mining industry’’; A statement signed by the Ministry’s Head of Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, stated.

    Dr. Alake made the following claim after conducting a retrospective analysis of the prejudices and injustices that women face in the industry: by putting its roadmap initiative into action, the current administration has shown that it is steadfastly committed to promoting diversity and empowering women.

    The National President of Women in Mining in Nigeria, Mrs. Janet Adeyemi, spoke during the unveiling ceremony. She was accompanied by Mrs. Emily Ofodile, the National Secretary.

    ‘’The launch serves as a beacon of hope – a rallying cry for collective action and solidarity. It is a platform to mobilise stakeholders, and ignite a movement towards meaningful change’’.

    Speaking as well, Dr. Mary Ogbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministries of Solid Minerals Development and Steel Development, cautioned industry participants to “stay firm in our resolve to implement the gender strategy” in order to ensure an inclusive and fair mining sector.

    The N&G Consulting Firm Ltd. gave an insightful presentation during the unveiling ceremony, and several expressions of gratitude from other organisations were also included.
