Speaking at the 9th Edition of the Nigerian Mining week Press briefing held at the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development Abuja. The Minister of Solid Minerals development, Dr Dele Alake urged stakeholders to participate actively in Nigeria’s Mining sector.
Highlighting the impact of the Nigerian Mining week and the current administration efforts to revive the sector. Other Speakers at the briefing include The permanent secretary Dr Mary Ogbe, represented by the Director(Human Resources) Mrs Ijeoma Idika, who confirmed the Nigerian Mining Week’s significance as a meeting point for stakeholders to discuss salient issues.

The Representative of Pwc Nigeria, Habeeb Jaiyeola, partner Mining Sector, Highlighted the key areas of discussion at this years Nigerian Mining week.
“This years theme will be focusing on the following, amongst other key discussion points: Optimising Nigeria’s brownfield and greenfield mineral assets for economic growth, Navigating subnational roles in Nigeria’s Mining sector: lessons from global practices on mineral resource federalism, Re-evaluating Nigeria’s strategic and critical minerals: A framework for sustainable development and national security, Leveraging the capital market to build Nigeria’s mining finance ecosystem and Women in Mining and Nurturing a junior mining sector in Nigeria.”
Speaking on the progress made by the Current administration regarding the development of the solid mineral sector, Dr Dele Alake reiterated the efforts of the ministry to amplify the Nigerian mining sector.
“The truth is that we have been able to raise the consciousness of both Nigerians and the international community about the criticality and significance of the solid Minerals sector. We are all aware of the Renewed Hope Agenda by the President. Solid Minerals as a pillar of Economic diversification is key to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda and we are moving there whether we like it or not so I appeal to everyone to join the Gravy Train while its Moving.”He also made projections regarding the progress of the Ministry’s policies.”In another year we’ll begin to count the gains of the Policies in this sector”When asked about the Ministry’s intervention in environmental sustainability and sustainable mining practices Dr Dele Alake pointed out that every Nigerian owes a responsibility regarding illegal mining activities which disregard sustainable mining practices.”We are all collectively culpable. Illegal mining operations cannot take place without the knowledge of the members of the community. Legal operators know that the environmental compliance department of the Ministry will come to monitor, so they would at least make an effort to follow these regulations. The illegal operators do not care about these.”
