Guinea’s interim President, General Mamadi Doumbouya, has ordered the revocation of mining rights from companies that fail to meet their legal and contractual obligations within the country.

According to Information and Communication Minister Fana Soumah, who made the announcement on national broadcaster Radio Television Guineenne on Thursday evening, the president stressed that adherence to contractual terms and project timelines is “non-negotiable.”

While Soumah did not disclose which firms may lose their rights, the statement followed a Bloomberg report revealing that the Guinean government intends to cancel a bauxite mining permit held by a subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium for failing to construct a required alumina refinery.

Soumah also commended China’s State Power Investment Corporation for initiating the development of an alumina refinery in Guinea. He described the project as a significant step toward processing bauxite locally and advancing the country’s industrial development.

Guinea holds the position as the world’s largest producer of bauxite, the key ore used to produce alumina and ultimately aluminium.
