Scheduled to take place in Accra from June 2-4, the summit, organized by the Ashanti Green Initiative in collaboration with the World Bank, World Gold Council, and other global partners, aims to connect small-scale miners with technology providers, financiers, and regulators to improve operations and drive sustainable growth. Minister Kofi Buah emphasized the summit’s potential to unlock new opportunities for small-scale miners by integrating them into the global financial ecosystem.

Under the theme “Sustainable Mining & Local Growth – Leveraging Resources for Global Impact,” the three-day event will bring together key decision-makers, including Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and representatives from South Africa, the Republic of Guinea, the African Union, ECOWAS, and the United Nations.

The summit will highlight the role of traditional authorities in shaping mining policies while emphasizing the economic and employment benefits of Ghana’s ASGM sector. In 2024 alone, artisanal mining in Ghana generated $5 billion in foreign exchange earnings, provided direct employment for over a million people, and contributed 35% of the country’s domestic gold output.

A major topic of discussion will be Ghana’s plans to establish a Gold Board—a move designed to streamline the purchase of gold from small-scale miners and expand their access to global markets. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, Acting Managing Director of Precious Minerals Marketing Company, is leading efforts to set up the Gold Board and will play a key role in shaping discussions at the summit.

The Mining in Motion Summit will feature high-level panel discussions, project showcases, deal signings, and exclusive networking sessions. These interactions will help connect Ghanaian miners with international investors and regional counterparts, paving the way for industry-changing partnerships.

By focusing on sustainability, regulatory frameworks, and financing solutions, the summit is set to drive long-term growth in Ghana’s mining sector while ensuring responsible mining practices that benefit both local communities and the global industry.
