The Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, has announced that the federal government is at an advanced stage in its efforts to resuscitate the long-dormant Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi State.
Speaking over the weekend at his country home in Ogbonicha, Ofu Local Government Area, during a meeting with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Audu revealed that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the plant’s Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to kick-start the revival process.
He further disclosed that efforts have been extended to attract private investors from China to partner in the resuscitation of the steel plant, describing it as a major milestone in the journey toward full restoration.
“We are doing a tremendous job. The journey has started, and we will be able to turn Ajaokuta and deliver results very quickly,” Audu said.
He highlighted that this development is a testament to the bold reforms and developmental strides of President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the past two years, aimed at stimulating the economy through steel development.

The minister reiterated the President’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, expanding the economy, improving citizens’ welfare, and delivering the dividends of democracy across the country.
He noted that the “Renewed Hope” agenda is already making an impact at the grassroots, referencing a recent decline in the prices of some staple foods.
“In just two years, Mr. President has shown strong political will and commitment to transform Nigeria. State FAAC allocations have increased significantly, and Kogi State has directly benefitted from this boost,” Audu stated.
Also speaking at the event, Joshua Onoja, State Secretary of the APC, lauded the Minister for organising the meeting and reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for President Tinubu’s re-election.
