The Edo State Ministry of Mining has conducted a comprehensive training and orientation programme for members of its newly inaugurated Taskforce, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to ensure compliance with mining regulations across the state.

The training featured resource persons from both the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Development and the Edo State Ministry of Mining. Topics covered included mining sector laws, safety protocols mandated by the government, mining operations knowledge, and other regulatory frameworks relevant to the sector.

Speaking at the event, the Edo State Commissioner for Mining, Hon. Andrew Ijegbai, said the training was designed to sharpen the Taskforce’s capacity and align them with the Ministry’s vision of a more compliant and viable mining industry.

“The training is aimed at enhancing the skills and orientation of the Taskforce to effectively deliver on their mandate,” he stated.
“I am confident that the Taskforce’s capacity will boost the Mining Sector’s viability,” he added, urging members to develop effective strategies to meet set targets.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Omoruyi Ese Martina, reiterated the significance of the Taskforce’s duties, stressing the need for integrity and adherence to the law.

“You must act in accordance with the law and avoid encouraging illegality among miners or shortchanging the mining practice regulations in the State,” she warned.

Representing the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, Engr. Adegbulu Onimisi, charged the Taskforce to be proactive in tackling illegal mining activities, which he said have had serious economic consequences.

“Illegal mining has negatively impacted the State and the Country’s economy,” he stated.

In his remarks, the newly appointed State Taskforce Chairman, Okpame Bello, pledged to work in close collaboration with the Ministry to fulfill their mandate.

“We will ensure that the Mining Sector in Edo State is properly monitored in compliance with established laws and regulations,” he affirmed.
