The upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025, set to take place in Cape Town from October 1-3, will feature a series of country-specific sessions aimed at highlighting Africa’s premier mining markets. These country spotlights are designed to promote emerging and established mining destinations across the continent, encouraging international investment and spotlighting future project opportunities.

Angola

Angola’s session will present tangible investment opportunities within its resource-rich mining sector, which includes diamonds, gold, copper and rare earths. Recent regulatory reforms and improved licensing procedures have enhanced the country’s attractiveness to global investors, and AMW will explore how these changes are shaping Angola’s mining landscape.

Botswana

Well-regarded for its diamond production — accounting for over 20% of global rough diamond output — Botswana is now seeking to diversify into critical minerals. The AMW platform will highlight Botswana’s strategy for sector diversification and promote collaboration on value chain development and sustainable growth.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

The DRC, home to some of the world’s largest reserves of cobalt and copper, will use its AMW spotlight to showcase ambitions for expanding its downstream capacity, particularly in electric vehicle manufacturing. With an estimated $24 trillion in untapped mineral wealth, the country is actively pursuing infrastructure development, mineral processing, and policy reform to encourage value addition.

Gabon

Gabon is reforming its mining sector under a revised Mining Code, and its AMW session will outline the new regulatory framework and investment potential, particularly in manganese and potash. The session aims to guide investors through the country’s shifting legal landscape and uncover new opportunities.

Ghana

Africa’s top gold producer, Ghana will spotlight initiatives to enhance its gold value chain. Attendees can expect updates on ongoing mine revitalisation programmes and drilling campaigns, aimed at expanding production and attracting new investment.

South Africa

South Africa’s session will focus on its dominant role in platinum group metals (PGMs), where it leads global production. With a new Critical Minerals Strategy launching in 2025, alongside strong infrastructure and a skilled workforce, South Africa is positioning itself as a global hub for mineral investment. AMW will provide exclusive insights into its industrial growth plans.

Zambia

As Africa’s second-largest copper producer, Zambia aims to scale up production to 3 million tonnes annually by 2031. Its AMW presentation will detail the government’s strategy, highlight investment-ready projects, and explore financial and strategic partnerships to support its copper ambitions.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, the continent’s biggest lithium producer and a major player in gold, platinum, and copper, will showcase its efforts to boost in-country processing and enhance international collaboration. AMW 2025 will provide a platform to foster investment and build new global partnerships across the mining sector.
