The much-anticipated African Mining Week, set to take place in Cape Town from October 1 to 3, 2025, will feature a dedicated Junior Mining Forum designed to connect emerging mining companies with investors, industry experts, and potential partners.
The forum will highlight the essential role junior mining companies play in the growth of Africa’s extractive sector, as the continent leverages the increasing global demand for minerals to fuel its economic development.
Junior mining companies are at the forefront of innovation, uncovering new mineral deposits, launching new projects, and creating opportunities that are accelerating the growth of Africa’s mining sector.
In Tanzania, UK-listed Marula Mining began manganese production in March 2025 and plans to begin operations at its Kinusi copper project later this year. Meanwhile, Australia’s Walkabout Resources is scaling up production at the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Project, which boasts some of the highest-grade flake graphite ore reserves in Africa.
In Zimbabwe, Kavango Resources secured $5 million in April 2025 from local pension funds to support its Hillside Gold Project. Premier African Minerals is progressing with its Zulu Lithium and Tantalum Project, cementing Zimbabwe’s position as a top global lithium producer.

Junior miners are also making significant strides in Africa’s gold sector. In Guinea, Canadian firm Robex Resources is accelerating development at the Kiniero Gold Mine, with initial production expected by the end of 2025 and an anticipated output of 100,000 ounces annually. Meanwhile, Allied Gold has secured a $500 million investment from UAE-based Ambrosia to expand the Sadiola Gold Mine in Mali and develop the Kurmuk Gold Mine in Ethiopia. In Sierra Leone, FG Gold Limited is advancing the Baomahun Gold Mine, the country’s first large-scale commercial gold project, due to become operational in 2025.
The Junior Mining Forum will offer high-level panel discussions addressing regulatory and market-entry challenges faced by junior miners, providing a valuable opportunity for these companies to engage directly with regulatory authorities and identify pathways for successful integration into the mining sector.
Acknowledging that access to investment remains a significant barrier, the event will also serve as a platform to foster strategic partnerships between emerging mining companies, global investors, and established industry leaders, unlocking new opportunities to tap into Africa’s vast mining potential.
As Africa’s premier gathering for mining stakeholders, African Mining Week will provide junior miners with the chance to connect with technology providers, ensuring they have the tools needed to explore and develop the continent’s rich geological resources.
The event will feature exclusive networking sessions and project showcases, offering a platform for both regional and global emerging mining firms to engage with lucrative investment opportunities across the African mining value chain.
